surgery

For many types of surgery, derma+flex® QS™ can assist to help make recovery simple and more convenient.

derma+flex® QS™ High Viscosity Tissue Adhesive is intended for topical application only to hold closed easily approximated skin edges of wounds from surgical incisions, including punctures from minimally invasive surgery, and simple, thoroughly cleansed, trauma-induced lacerations. derma+flex® QS™ High Viscosity Tissue Adhesive may be used in conjunction with, but not in place of, deep dermal sutures.

Cyanoacrylate tissue adhesives have been studied extensively compared with sutures and other wound closure agents for topical wound closure and have consistently been shown to produce similar cosmetic results while improving the speed of closure and being overall less painful.1

Suturing is a technical skill in which many physicians never develop any proficiency, whereas others suture so infrequently that they lose proficiency. Similarly, the application of a tissue adhesive is a technical skill that requires some instruction and practice to develop proficiency. Tissue adhesives are easy to learn and can easily be incorporated into a physician’s practice. However, modifications such as increasing the viscosity and improved applicator.1

Where derma+flex® QS™ is practical:
Skin areas not under complex stress or tension

Appropriate: Exterior – non-hair areas of the epidermis and areas not located inside the mouth.
The face, but not in close proximity of the eyes.

Not Appropriate: inside the mouth or eyes.

derma+flex® QS™ High Viscosity Tissue Adhesive should not be used in high skin tension areas or across areas of increased skin tension, such as knuckles, elbows, or knees, unless the joint will be immobilized during the skin healing period or unless skin tension has been removed by application of another wound closure device (e.g., sutures, skin staples, or adhesive wound closure strips) prior to application of derma+flex® QS™ High Viscosity Tissue Adhesive.
